TOWN OF COCHRANE

and the Cowboy Trail, Cochrane is a recreation playground for

a growth rate of 8% per year with friendly people and abundant

With the completion of the downtown revitalization and celebration
of the Town’s centennial in 2003, Cochrane has become a popular
tourist attraction for many. The Town has had a steadily increasing
population over the last decade and the 2006 Federal census results
boasted a population of 13,760.
The Director, Planning and Engineering will
report to the CAO and will have the autonomy to develop a strong
and motivated team of administrators, engineers and planners
helping to move the organization forward in achieving the strategic
goals. As a key contributor,
you will oversee and provide leadership for Planning and Development,
Engineering and Safety codes while working closely with the CAO,
Council, Citizens and other municipal departments. You will have
the responsibility to coordinate the Department budget and business
plans in conjunction with the corporate strategic plan. In addition,
as a senior manager within the municipality, you will provide important
Department information and advice to Town Council on planning and
engineering issues. Finally, you will develop an atmosphere of
professionalism mixed with humor and fun in your Department as
team members feel value-added and able to contribute to the overall
success of the organization.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a progressive
career which includes an appropriate combination of the following: post
secondary education in a relevant field; eligibility for membership
in the Society of Local Government Managers; and, a minimum 8 years
municipal consulting or employment experience, at least 3 of which
is in a leadership position.
