The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River is one of the larger rural municipalities in Alberta, and is within 2 hours of Edmonton. Boreal forest and recreational lakes dominate the area. The natural environment provides opportunity for many outdoor pursuits including hiking, hunting and fishing. The economy is robust with lumber, oil and gas industries, flourishing in the region. The municipality administration is located in the Town of Slave Lake which offers a unique rural/urban environment with a choice of lifestyle in urban or rural communities and its hamlets.
The economic base of the Municipality is very strong which has resulted in the need to provide the resource industry and residents with enhanced and expanded water and wastewater systems and services. To cope with the rapidly growing economy, the municipality has openings for two additional Water/Wastewater Operators.
The positions are under the supervision of the Utility Foreman and will assist with the operation and maintenance of the municipality’s four water treatment plants and three wastewater facilities. Primary responsibility will be assisting the Senior Operator to service and operate the Municipalities Level 2 Membrane Water Treatment Plants and Level III Membrane Bioreactor Wastewater Facilities.
This position requires the performance of daily operational and maintenance functions at the water and wastewater plants, pump houses, reservoirs and overall system maintenance. Other responsibilities would include monitoring and reporting as per Alberta Environment Codes and Regulations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Alberta Environment Wastewater Certification – Level I or Level II in Water Treatment and Distribution and/or Wastewater Treatment and Collection with the ability to achieve the next level of Certification within 18 months of hire.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed records.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- The ability to deal with the general public in an effective and courteous manner.
ADDITIONAL ASSETS:
- Experience in Membrane Treatment Plants and Process.
- Experience in lab testing operations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of SCADA Systems.
- Current First Aid Certification.
- Confined Space Certification.
- WHMIS Certificate.
HOURS OF WORK: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on a 4 day rotational shift.
These are a permanent full time positions with a comprehensive employee benefits package. Starting wage is dependent upon qualifications and ranges from $20.20 to $32.00 per hour for a 40 hour work week. Wage rates are currently under review. Single and family rental housing is available to municipal employees.
