Wheatland County UTILITY OPERATOR

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary.  The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, and oil and gas activity, and community development. 

The County is currently seeking a Utility Operator. Under the direction of the Lead Utility Operator, this position will assist in the operation and maintenance of the municipality’s three water treatment plants and four wastewater facilities; and under contract, three other municipalities.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Field Assist in daily testing and operations of the Water and Wastewater Facilities in accordance to the Alberta Environment guidelines.
• Follow maintenance procedures and schedules set by supervisor.
• Perform the task of connecting and disconnecting water to services.
• Recording the readings of water meters.
• Maintaining good public relations, responding to complaints and concerns, and also addressing them to the Lead Utility Operator.
• Keeping clear and accurate records.
• Maintenance and repair of all water and wastewater infrastructure.
• On-call duties during week and weekends for rounds and emergencies.

The preferred candidate should possess the following qualifications:

• Water Distribution 1, Water Treatment 1, Wastewater Collection 1 and Wastewater Treatment 1 certifications.
• An aptitude for planning and organizing work in a timely and efficient manner.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Being able to work independently and within a team.
• Knowledge of SCADA Systems, Current First Aid, Confined Space and WHMIS Certification.

In accordance with Wheatland County’s Personnel Policy the successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Records Check and Driver’s Abstract.
