Director, Development and Infrastructure Sustainability

Located in the heart of Alberta, Cochrane is a vibrant community of 15,000 and is a family oriented community located in the breathtaking Bow Corridor in southern Alberta within minutes of both the Rocky Mountains and the City of Calgary.

Through our mission “to protect and promote Cochrane as a unique community through our dedication to public service” and as a part of an exciting new leadership structure which has been developed to support a growing community of up to 30,000 citizens by 2020, the Town of Cochrane now requires a  Director, Development and Infrastructure Sustainability.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to the planning, engineering and infrastructure services divisions. In this capacity the Director will lead and coach a team of three Senior Managers and approximately 50 indirect reports in the areas of Engineering, Infrastructure, Planning, Economic Development, Safety Codes, Environmental Services, GIS, Water/Waste Water, Roads and Solid Waste & Recycling. The Director will develop business plans and manage an operating budget of approximately $12 million, be a contributing member of the Executive Leadership Team and will advise Town Council on matters related to  development, planning and infrastructure services.  As a champion of the Cochrane Sustainability Plan, the Director will ensure its inclusion in guiding the growth of the built environment, culture, economy and social and natural environment of the Town of Cochrane.

This is a role for a dynamic individual with a strong results orientation, track record of fostering a collaborative environment and building a sense of fun into the workplace. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a progressive career which includes an appropriate combination of post secondary education in a related field (P. Eng in Civil Engineering is preferred) and work experience, having a  minimum of 10 years experience in either the planning, engineering and/ or infrastructure fields, including five years or more in a leadership position. He/she will also possess strong skills in public consultation working with community groups and stakeholders.  The successful candidate will have well developed skill sets and attributes that apply to the following critical competencies: Strategic Leadership, Decision Quality, Business Acumen, Talent Management, Political Acumen, Coaching and Developing Staff, Building Relationships, Project Management, Contract Management, Accountable for Results, Customer Focus, Communication, Values and Ethics.
